Alta Vista Hospital Link – project overview and construction information
The City of Ottawa is constructing a two-lane road and transit link, known as the Alta Vista Hospital Link, to connect Riverside Drive and the Transitway to the Hospital Ring Road.
This important transportation link, paid for by development charges, is needed to improve transit service to the Ottawa Health Sciences Complex (OHSC), improve the area’s pedestrian and cycling network, support future hospital growth, facilitate development of the National Defence Medical Centre Lands and improve traffic flow along Smyth Road.
What is the Alta Vista Hospital Link?
- The Alta Vista Hospital Link is a two-lane road and transit link from Riverside Drive and the Transitway to the Hospital Ring Road and the facilities that comprise the OHSC.
- The link will connect to the Hospital Ring Road just east of the TransAlta cogeneration plant with a T intersection. See draft design here: Draft Design.
- It will include space for public transit and pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, improving access to these facilities.
What are the construction timelines and current activities?
Construction activities will occur throughout 2015, 2016 and 2017. The contractor, Ottawa Greenbelt Construction Limited, will be completing construction during this time period, which means work areas will change as operations are initiated and completed.
