Beginning early October, the City of Ottawa will begin construction work in your neighbourhood.  This work is being conducted to improve pedestrian mobility and accessibility.

WHO: The City of Ottawa Contractor, Ottawa D Squared Construction Ltd., will complete the work.

WHY: The City of Ottawa will be proceeding with construction to improve pedestrian mobility.

WHAT: Work will include a new 1.8m wide concrete sidewalk on the east side of Saunderson Drive, between Goren Avenue and Chapman Boulevard.

WHEN: The work is tentatively planned to begin the week of October 5, 2015. Landscaping, such as sod and topsoil, will be completed in May/June of 2016.

The City of Ottawa Noise By-law (2004-253) allows construction activity to occur weekdays between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. On Saturdays, work is permitted between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. while Sunday and statutory holiday work is allowed between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. The contractor has advised the City that usual construction hours will be weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  This will be modified as needed, for example if weather affects the schedule, or if conditions change.

WHERE: The work will occur on Saunderson Drive, between Goren Avenue and Chapman Boulevard. Every effort will be made to reduce the duration of the construction impacts in your community.

Accessibility

Accessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. The City makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites. If you require special accommodation, please contact the On-Site Inspector or the Contractor’s Representative.

Construction Disruptions

Ottawa D Squared Construction Ltd. is assuming full responsibility for the construction work until it is completed in 2016.  They will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the operation of the work, such as delays and traffic detours when travelling through the construction zone, noise, dust, vibration and alternative parking arrangements.  We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation.

Impact on the Right-of-Way and Adjacent Private Properties

The sidewalk construction is within the City’s right-of-way but may result in some disruption to part of the private property directly adjacent to the work.  Lawns, pathways, gardens and/or driveways may be disturbed. The affected areas will be reinstated as soon as possible after construction is completed, at no cost to you. However, if you have plants or any other assets located within the City’s right-of-way that you want to preserve, we suggest that you may care to move the plants in preparation for the construction work.

You may feel vibrations at your home or business due to the use of the heavy equipment needed to complete this work. This is quite common and not usually a problem.
