Do You Know Ottawa’s Film and Television Industry?
2016 was a record year for the local industry, generating over $100 million in foreign direct investment in the Ottawa region. Here are just a few highlights of the projects:
- I am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House – a Netflix original film that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival produced locally by Zed Filmworks;
- The much-anticipated 2nd season of Michael: Every Day – A CBC TV series that is set in Ottawa;
- The feature films Z and First Light, produced locally by Michael Baker of Bunk 11 Pictures;
- The 3rd season of the Radio-Canada TV series Toi et Moi (also set in Ottawa), produced locally by Slalom Productions; and
- 8 made-for-television movies, including one currently filming in the city.
It was also another amazing year for Ottawa’s animation sector. Projects such as Atomic Puppet and Disney’s The Lion Guard (Mercury Filmworks), Pinky and Malinky and Loud House (Jam Filled for Nickelodeon), Wild Kratts (Kratt Brothers Company), F is for Family (Big Jump Animation for Netflix), Pirate’s Passage (Pip Animation for CBC), and others helped Ottawa maintain its reputation as a leader in world-class animation.
