Ottawa – The City of Ottawa reminds residents of the following schedule changes for Saturday, December 24 to Monday, January 2.
Recreation Services:
- Sens Rink of Dreams, located on Marion Dewar Plaza at Ottawa City Hall, is open daily from 6 a.m. to
11 p.m., and the heated changing facility is open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., weather permitting.
During the Holiday season, the following holiday schedule will apply:
- December 24 – 6 a.m.to 6 p.m.
- Christmas Day – 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Boxing Day – noon to 11 p.m.
- New Year’s Eve – closed at 11 p.m.
- New Year’s Day – noon to 11 p.m.
- Skating Court, located at Lansdowne Park, is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the heated changing facility is open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., weather permitting.
During the Holiday season, the following holiday schedule will apply:
- December 24 – 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Christmas Day – 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Boxing Day – noon to 11 p.m.
- New Year’s Eve – closed at 1 a.m.
- New Year’s Day – noon to 11 p.m.
- Ben Franklin Place Skating Rink, located at 101 Centrepointe Drive, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the heated changing facility is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting
During the Holiday season, the following holiday schedule will apply:
- December 24, 26, 31 and January 1 – open regular hours
- Christmas Day – closed
- New Year’s Eve – closed at 10 p.m.
- Pools, arenas and fitness centres will be operating on modified schedules during the holiday season, including modified swimming, skating and fitness schedules. Most recreation facilities are closed and public swimming, aquafitness, public skating and fitness schedules are cancelled on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. - Public skating will be offered at Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex, Jim Durrell Recreation Complex and Goulbourn Recreation Complex. Please check with ca for details.
- Registered programs at swimming pools, community centres and arenas are cancelled during the holiday season; however, clients should check with their facility to confirm, as some exceptions will apply.
Client services:
- Ottawa City Hall and all seven Client Service Centres, including the Government Service Centre located at 110 Laurier Avenue West, will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the statutory holiday, Tuesday, December 27 in lieu of Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Business will resume as usual on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
- Rural client service centres (Metcalfe, West Carleton and North Gower) will be open on a reduced schedule from 8:30 a.m. to noon from Tuesday, December 20 to Thursday, December 22 and will be closed from Tuesday, December 27 to Monday, January 2. Business will resume as usual on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
- The City’s Provincial Offences Court, located at 100 Constellation Crescent, will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the statutory holiday, Tuesday, December 27 in lieu of Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Business will resume as usual on Tuesday, January 3 2017.
- The City’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be operating on their after-hours priority response schedule. Agents will be available to take urgent requests, which require immediate assistance from City services. Call 3-1-1 or 613-580-2400 to speak to a customer service representative. Garbage, green bin and recycling:
- Curbside or multi-residential green bin, recycling, garbage will take place on its regular day with no changes to the collection schedule.
- Multi-residential garbage and recycling container collection will take place on its regularly scheduled day with no changes.
- Christmas trees will be collected on your regular scheduled collection day. Please remove all decorations. Christmas trees in plastic bags will not be collected.
Transit service:
- OC Transpo will operate on a reduced schedule from December 25 to January 6.
- On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, service will operate on a Sunday schedule.
- On Monday, December 26, a Saturday schedule will be in effect.
- On December 28, 29 and 30 service will operate on a reduced weekday schedule.
- Special school services will not operate from December 25 to January 6.

- Customers should check the holiday schedules before heading out as OC Transpo routes will operate on a Saturday schedule on December 31. - OC Transpo Customer Service Centres will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, except at the Rideau Centre, where the Customer Service Centre will be open Christmas Eve from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Boxing Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On New Year’s Eve, Customer Service Centres will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Customer Service Centre at the Rideau Centre will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The Transit Information Centre (613-741-4390) will be open throughout the holidays to help customers with schedules and trip planning, including Christmas Eve from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Christmas Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Boxing Day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., New Year’s Eve from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and New Year’s Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m..
- OC Transpo Customer Relations (613-842-3600) will be closed on Boxing Day, December 27 and January 2.
- Para Transpo operations: Para Transpo Administration (613-244-1289) and Taxi Coupon (613-842-3670) offices will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, December 27, New Year’s Day, and January 2, but Reservations (613-244-7272) will be open regular hours.
Para Transpo will operate a holiday service on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Regular scheduled trips are automatically cancelled, but customers may book trips for these days by calling 613-244‑7272 on or after:
- December 18 for Christmas Day bookings
- December 19 for Boxing Day bookings
- December 25 for New Year’s Day bookings
Customers are reminded to suspend their regular booking if they will be on vacation during the holiday season.
Parking:
- All City of Ottawa parking regulations and restrictions will apply during this time.
Ottawa Public Health:
- The latest Food Premises and Personal Service Settings (tattoo and body piercing studios, hairdressing and barber shops, nail salons, electrolysis and various other services) public health inspection reports are available online 24/7.
- The Sexual Health Centre and Satellite Clinics will be closed on Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 27 and Monday, January 2.
- The Dental Clinics and Well Baby Drop-In will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
- The SITE office at 179 Clarence Street will be operating on the following schedule:
- Boxing Day, Monday, December 26 – closed
- Tuesday, December 27 – closed
- Monday, January 2 – closed
- The SITE Mobile Van will be operating on the following schedule:
- Saturday, December 24 – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Christmas Day – closed
- Boxing Day, Monday, December 26 – regular schedule 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, December 27 – regular schedule
- Saturday, December 31 – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- New Year’s Day – regular schedule
- Monday, January 2 – regular schedule
- The Ottawa Public Health Information Line (OPHIL) will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day; however, you can call and leave a message and inquiries will be responded to within one business day. Cultural services:
- Karsh-Masson Gallery, Barbara Ann Scott Gallery and the OAG Annex at City Hall will be open daily as usual throughout the holidays.
City of Ottawa Archives, arts centres, galleries, theatres and museums will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day; however, clients should check ca or their facility to confirm, as some exceptions may apply.
Archives Services:
- The City of Ottawa Archives Reference Services and Gallery 112 will be closed December 25 through December 27, and on New Year’s Day and January 2. Reference Services will close at noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The Rideau branch of the Archives will also be closed on December 29.
Municipal child care services:
- All Municipal Child Care Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, December 26 and 27, and New Year’s Day. However, during the holiday period, December 25 to January 1, the following exceptions apply:
- Borden Farm – Open December 28, 29 and 30
- Charmian Craven – Open December 28, 29 and 30
- E. Couture – Closed
- Elsie Stapleford – Open December 28, 29 and 30
- Esther By – Closed
- Foster’s Farm – Closed

Library services:
- All branches and services of the Ottawa Public Library will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Branches and services will operate normally from December 27 to 30. On Saturday, December 24 and 31, all branches that normally close at 5 p.m. will close early at 3 p.m., while branches that normally close before 3 p.m. will maintain regular hours.
