Ottawa  ̶  Gateway speed-limit signs, which mark the start and end of areas with lower speed limits, could soon be coming to Ottawa. The City’s Transportation Committee today approved their use.

New provincial legislation allows municipalities to use the signs wherever speed limits are less than 50 kilometres per hour. The City would install signs on local roads in residential areas and on collector roads with speed limits of 40 kilometres per hour. Staff would work with Councillors to prioritize areas within their respective wards, with signs coming to one area per ward by the end of 2019.

Staff will review the concept of parking and cycling to work, following direction from the Committee. Staff will make recommendations in early 2019.

Items approved at today’s Transportation Committee will go to City Council on Wednesday, August 29.
